THE CANCER REHABILITATION SUPPORT TEAM CReST

Macmillan Palliative Care Nurse

Macmillan Cancer Relief (MCR)

This is a national charity concerned with improving the care and treatment available to people with cancer and their families. MCR funds Macmillan nurses, Macmillan doctors, social workers and radiographers as well as buildings, and grants to patients with financial need and a nursing and education programme.

What is Palliative Care?

The aim of palliative care is to achieve the best quality of life for patients and families - focusing on care not cure.

Your Macmillan Palliative Care Nurse

Macmillan nurses are registered nurses who have undergone specialist training to enable them to care for and support people with cancer and their families. Your Macmillan Palliative Care nurse can help you and your family cope with the difficulties and anxieties which cancer can cause.

What can we offer you?

  • Advice on pain control
  • Advice on control of other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, poor appetite.
  • Support and advice for both in and out patients and their families
  • A resource for information and advice on cancer and palliative care for hospital staff

An important part of our work is giving time to listen to you, and those close to you, and to talk with you about any problems you may have, especially in coming to terms with being told your treatment is no longer helping.

We can give you information about your illness, answer your questions and discuss the treatments offered to control your symptoms.

In this way we can hopefully help to alleviate your anxiety and support you and your family during your time here at Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology.
