The Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre

The centre provides information and support to people with cancer and their families.
At the centre we encourage a positive attitude towards cancer and help people to develop a sense of control in living with cancer.
We are here to raise awareness about cancer and to offer you appropriate care and support.

Aims of the Centre

  • To offer information, support and practical help to any person affected by cancer whether patient, family member, carer or friend.
  • To provide an experienced professional team to help you gain the most from your treatments.
  • To offer a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Drop-In Services
We are open three days a week to offer support and to try to help with your concerns or problems. You can drop in for a coffee and a chat in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, without having to make an appointment.

The Staff
The centre is staffed by a professional and experienced team, who are supported by trained volunteers.

Information and Support
The centre also provides a comprehensive library with leaflets, books and tapes, as well as access to the internet. You can look up a variety of information at your own pace, to ensure you have all the background knowledge you need to help you understand and live with your cancer.

Educational Sessions
We run regular educational programmes about cancer and its treatments which you are welcome to attend. For further details of times and subjects please ring us.

Learning to Live with Cancer
"Learning to Live with Cancer" is a patient education programme that gives people affected by Cancer information and emotional support to help them live with a diagnosis of Cancer.

The course is free and is held once a year in April. The programme is made up of nine 2 hourly sessions, which are held in the evening for nine consecutive weeks at Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology.

Sessions include information on normal anatomy and function, as well as general facts about cancer, its treatment and treatment side effects. The course also addresses the myths surrounding chance to help dispel misunderstanding about the disease.

Tuesdays, Thursdays 9.30am - 4.30pm
