Patients
Charter
The Clatterbridge
Centre for Oncology supports the National Patients' Charter. In addition,
we have developed our own charter aimed at the needs of cancer patients.
Patients receiving
care at the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology are assured they will be:
- Treated with dignity and have their religious and cultural beliefs
respected
- Treated and cared for by staff with the necessary skills, knowledge
and experience to provide an efficient and effective service
- Provided with an environment that is friendly, safe and accessible
to all
- Given a high standard of clinical treatment, care and support within
available resources
- Given an outpatient appointment within two weeks of the request for
consultant referral being received
- Seen within 30 minutes of their outpatient appointment time where
possible or receive an explanation for any delay
- Given accurate, verbal and written information about the hospital
services, facilities and standards
- Given information about any treatment and its effects. With the patient's
consent, this information will also be given to relatives and friends
- Given an admission date within one month of referral for treatment
- Have their care planned and evaluated by a registered nurse (for inpatients)
- Fully informed about any clinical education or research studies in
which they may be asked to participate;
- Receive acknowledgement of a complaint within two working days of
the complaint being received, and a comprehensive response within a
further 14 working days;
- Referred to appropriate support agencies for any continuing care or
services required following completion of treatment.
The Patients' Charter
came into force in 1995. You can obtain a copy from your GP's surgery,
local hospital or library or the National Health Information Service on
0800 665544.
If you are denied
one of the National Charter Rights, you should go through the complaints
procedure first. Alternatively, you can write to the Chief Executive of
the NHS, Department of Health, Richmond House, 79 Whitehall, London, SW1A
2NS. They will investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
