INFORMATION
TECHNOLOGY
We are improving the information technology (IT)systems throughout
our local health and social services. We are working towards:
- integrated
electronic patient records by 2002; these are to be supported
by the electronic ordering of tests, results reporting, prescribing
and monitoring of patients 'care pathways
- all
staff having access to national IT resources, including the
full NHS Address Book,by March 2002
- the
electronic transfer of pathology results.
Wirral
is to be a national pilot for the 'Local Information for Health'programme.Aiming
to improve the electronic transfer of records between health and
social care services,Wirral will be the first local authority
to include routinely the NHS patient number on social services
'client records.
HEALTH ACTION ZONE
Most of our work on the government 's National Priorities is detailed
elsewhere in this leaflet, however,we believe it is worth highlighting
here the success of Merseyside 's Health Action Zone (HAZ) which
contributes significantly to our work.
Green Light for HAZ
Merseyside HAZ was officially assessed in October 2000,with successful
results. The assessors 'report included positive acknowledgements
such as:
"It is our view that Merseyside is one of the leading HAZs in
the country - both in its action to tackle inequalities and in
relation to the modernisation agenda."
It was also highlighted as one of just three HAZs in the country
to have made exemplary progress on coronary heart disease, cancer
and mental health.
