PARTNERS
The HImP works on a 'partnership 'basis, enabling everyone involved
to have their say on the direction of services being developed
in Wirral.
We have been pleased by the public response received through this
partnership system and the praise for it from an official audit
among north-west health authorities and members of the Social
Care Region (North).
This is just one of the many achievements outlined in this document. Each
section gives brief details of achievements to date as well as
ongoing projects.
MORE FOR THE YOUNG
Consultation regarding the HImP during 2000/01 highlighted that
children and young people did not feature significantly enough. For
the year ahead we are placing greater emphasis on their needs.
We shall also aim to increase the involvement of patients, service
users and carers in the planning and delivery of health and social
care locally.
MODERNISATION
In the workplace
The involvement and commitment of staff are key to any organisation
achieving its objectives.A number of Wirral HImP 's achievements
during the past year have already produced positive effects in
the workplace.
- All
Wirral NHS organisations have achieved the pledge status of
'Improving Working Lives '.This is a public commitment by NHS
employers to invest in their staff and, therefore, improve patient
care by better recruitment and retention of well-motivated staff.
Soon, all NHS employers will be measured against these standards.
- A
childcare co-ordinator will be appointed shortly to help NHS
staff throughout Wirral to balance the pressures of work and
home. The co-ordinator will assist staff with childcare issues
and help to provide good quality, affordable and accessible childcare.
- All
Board members within the Wirral health community have received
awareness training around managing equality and diversity within
the workplace. This shows commitment from the top to ensure that
we are fair, equal opportunity employers. All staff will be given
similar training over the next 12 months.
- During
the review year, each of the Wirral NHS organisations received
'Positive About Disabled People 'accreditation (the Two Ticks
symbol). This demonstrates that policies and procedures for recruiting
staff are fair and accessible to people with disabilities. It
also demonstrates our commitment to NHS staff who may become
disabled while they are in our employment.
We
recognise that the amount of change, and pace of change, can cause
unease among staff. We wish to thank everyone for their patience
during this long period of transition and invite all staff to
get involved in the changes through the new lines of communication
that have been established.
QUALITY
Quality is at the heart of the government ' modernisation programmes
and national standards have been lain down for both clinical care
and support services.
Currently,we are working on the clinical care standards for services
such as mental health, coronary heart disease, diabetes and care
of older people.
New cleanliness standards were set out in April 2001 and Wirral
Hospital NHS Trust has undergone its first inspection.Clatterbridge
Hospital has invested additional funding in improving its environment.
All hospitals will be providing a 24-hour food service from December
2001.
