WELCOME TO THE SILVERDALE MEDICAL CENTRE

The medical centre has been at Silverdale since the late 1960’s. It moved to this convenient site in the centre of Heswall from premises in Daryl Road.

The Practice was originally established at the beginning of the century. Many case records still bear the names of Dr. Carlisle, Dr. Turner, Dr. Wishart and Dr. Story. In the 1970’s the practice consisted of Dr. John Lister Smith, Dr. David Nelson, Dr. Roger Snook and Dr. Margaret Smith. Dr. Snook and Dr. Margaret Smith left to practice in near-by Neston and in 1980 Dr. Lister Smith and Dr. Nelson retired from General Practice.

Dr. Hennessy and Dr. Pickles succeeded to the Practice in late 1980 and were joined very soon after by Dr. Lang, all three being already well known to one another from their days on the wards of Clatterbridge Hospital.

The Surgery has recently been redesigned and refurbished and is fully accessible to the disabled.

Copies of our Practice Charter are available at Reception.

APPOINTMENTS & HOME VISITS

Consultations are by appointment only. Surgeries and Clinics operate throughout the day. Please make appointments well in advance for routine and non-urgent consultations. If you have an urgent problem tell the receptionist so that arrangements can be made to see you.

Home visits - If you need to see the doctor but are unable to get to the surgery, home visits can be arranged by contacting the reception staff. It would be most helpful if you would telephone before 10.30am. Please do not ask for home visits if you can possibly come to the surgery. The doctor can see four people at the surgery in the same time as it takes for one house call.

TELEPHONE ADVICE

The most convenient time to contact the Doctor by telephone for advice is between 10.30am and 11.30am.

NON NHS EXAMINATIONS & REPORTS

Medical examinations for special purposes, e.g. elderly drivers, pre-employment, fitness to undertake sports, fitness to travel, etc., are arranged via reception staff. As special arrangements must be made a fee will be payable, but these are less than the British Medical Associations recommended fees.
