Wirral L & D
The Directorate of Learning and Development was established in January, 2004 in order to represent the multidisciplinary education and development agenda. The purpose of the Directorate is to provide learning and development opportunities that will equip Wirral Hospital Trust Staff with the knowledge, skills and attitude to enable them to perform effectively within their roles and deliver high quality care to the people of Wirral.

There are many national and local education agendas that support the delivery of health care and teamwork and good communication skills are at the heart of providing learning and development.

The Directorate has several departments with specific remits to design, deliver and support learning opportunities.

The Leadership and Development Centre is based at Clatterbridge Hospital. This Centre provides a range of programmes, eg Leadership and Management Development and National Vocational Qualifications.

The Resuscitation Training Department is based at Clatterbridge Hospital; some examples of programmes are - CPR Training, First Aid, Physical Interventions Courses for both adults and children.

There are two education centres at Clatterbridge and Arrowe Park Hospitals. All staff have access to the theatre lecture rooms, seminar rooms and the libraries.

The Undergraduate Centre is based at Arrowe Park Hospital. The Centre ensures that the 2nd, 4th and 5th Year medical students receive the necessary teaching and training during their attachment at Wirral Hospital Trust.

The Clinical Facilitators based at Arrowe Park Hospital are responsible for supporting pre- and post registration students with evidence based clinical skills and practice. They work with individuals and groups to enhance the learning of the students.

The Clinical Skills Laboratory is based at Arrowe Park Hospital. A range of clinical programmes are provided, eg Venepuncture, Chest Auscultation, Wound Assessment. The department works closely with senior clinicians to ensure programmes support staff needs.
