About the Act

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 was passed in November 2000 and is designed to give a general right of access to all recorded information held by public authorities. The Act, referred to as FOI, comes fully into force in January 2005.

It requires all public authorities to produce a Publication Scheme, which is a guide to the information routinely published by the organisation. Our Publication Scheme is available to you to view or download via the link in the menu on the left.

There are a number of exemptions to the Act that can result in some information being withheld, depending on its contents.
