Rights & Responsibilities
 
A DRUG SERVICE USER HAS THE RIGHT TO:
 
  • An assessment of individual need (within Patient's Charter 13 weeks)
  • Full information about treatment options and informed involvement in making decisions concerning treatment.
  • An individual care plan and participation in the writing and reviewing of that care plan.
  • Respect for privacy, dignity and confidentiality and an explanation of any (exceptional) circumstances in which information will be divulged to others.
  • To seek a second opinion.
  • A written statement of drug service users' rights.
  • The development of service user agreements, specifying clearly the type of service to be delivered and the expected quality standards.
  • An effective complaints system Information about self-help groups and drug user advocacy groups

A DRUG SERVICE USER'S RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE SERVICE PROVIDER INCLUDE:
 
  • Observing 'house' rules and 'behavioural' rules, as defined by the drug service.
  • Treat staff with dignity and respect
  • Not to smoke or use drugs or alcohol on drug service premises
  • Not to attend the service intoxicated
  • Not to use violent or threatening behaviour
  • Give 2 weeks notice to the service for changes to treatment, holidays, pick-up regimes, chemists
  • Lost or stolen prescriptions cannot be replaced
  • It is important that appointments are attended on time and to notify the service of cancellations
  • That medication regimes and treatment contracts are observed
