Role of the Playleader

We supervise all aspects of play in the Childrens Outpatient Department.

The Playroom

We have a play area that is available to our patients and their siblings and also children in the day ward. Toys, equipment and materials are available and appropriate for children of all ages and abilities. We are also available to discuss with parents/carers any worries or anxieties they may have with regard to preparing their child for surgical, clinical or diagnostic procedures.

Our aim is to provide a friendly and calm environment where children can play whilst they wait to see the doctor. Play services also occupy children and channel their natural energy and high spirits which might otherwise disrupt the clinic.

We believe that by providing play in children's outpatients, which can often be a time of stress for parents and children, we are able to show that a hospital is a place that cares about children, therefore giving them a pleasant and positive experience of hospital care which will remain with them until themselves become parents.
