Three consultants
carry out operations on children in Arrowe Park Hospital. They are Mr Greaney,
Mr Blair and Mr Reilly.
Surgical clinics
are held every week, alternating between Wednesdays and Thursdays.
At the outpatient
clinic all children are pre-assessed.
Consent forms and
pre anaesthetic checklists are completed. This alleviates the need for "checking
in" by junior medical staff on the day of admission.
Having made sure
everything is completed by the doctor and the carers are happy the Nurse in
clinic takes the child and carers to the Children's Day Ward. The staff in the
ward show the child where they will come on the day. They show them all the
toys they can play with and explain what will happen to them. This helps the
child overcome any fears or worries they may have of coming into hospital.
