Diabetic Clinic

The Consultant responsible for all Diabetic children is Dr Todd. Dr Todd holds two clinics a month. Diabetic Liaison Nurse, Brenda Light, also works at the clinics. As do three dieticians (Rachel Lindsay, Alice Sutton & Lucy McAteer) and a Child Psychologist.

On the third Friday of each month Dr Todd holds a morning clinic for younger children.

On the first Monday in the month Dr Todd holds an afternoon clinic for adolescents (children attending senior school). Although managed by Paediatric staff this clinic is held in the adult outpatient department. This encourages the children to behave in a more mature way. At these clinics the doctors, the diabetic nurse and dieticians see the child on their own and then with their carers.

3 or 4 times a year a handover clinic is held with the Adult Diabetes Service. This allows 15 and 16 year olds to be introduced to the Adult Diabetic Consultant, Dr Bowen Jones and the Adult Diabetic Liaison Nurse.
